Clothespin Cup: CVA & Left Neglect
It is important to brainstorm beyond one dimension when creating an intervention or activity. Completing this assignment has allowed me to use my creative mind to think of a useful activity that will benefit the client in reaching their occupational goal. The most common use of a clothespin is to hang clothes to dry. The purpose of the clothespin in this assignment is to disrupt the balance of the cup until all clothespins are added. A client with left neglect may stop adding pins once they have covered the right side of the cup. This causes the cup to tip to the right field of view, prompting them to stand the cup upright and check the left side. I have learned that an object can be useful in therapy even if it is not used as intended (i.e. Using clothespin to balance/counterbalance cup). Brainstorming ideas of how to use items in a way not intended can be very helpful with my future clients. Therapy should be efficient and cost-effective. Minimizing expenses by using everyday items can benefit the client, allowing them to continue activities at home.
